16th and 17th June Interlaken/CH – Jungfraujoch - Aletschgletscher – Brig/CH 

In the very early morning, from Brienz, the group will reach Interlaken and continue to Lauterbrunnen. It will then get to Kleine Scheidegg by rack railway. This place is located at the foot of the notorious north face of the Eiger. Participants will then head to Jungfraujoch, crossing the Eigergletscher station. Junfraujoch is the highest railroad in Europe at 3454 m (11333 feet). 

At Jungfraujoch participants will be offered breakfast while the representatives of the Alpine Pearls 

Network will describe the main points of the alpine cooperation projects on the theme of sustainable mobility as well as their successes in terms of tourism.  

In the late morning, the crossing will start with a 4-hour walk towards Rifugio Konkordia (2.850 m).  

The next morning participants will cut through Aletsch, the longest alpine glacier, all the way to Märjelenalp. They will then reach Kühboden and get to the cableway station in Fiescheralp. 

Fiescheralp will host the second meeting of participants and representatives of mountain farmers. Furthermore the activities of Brig, Alpine Town of the year 2008, will be presented. 

The journey will continue from Fiesch to Brig, Alpine Town of the Year 2008.

FROM FRANCE TO SWITZERLAND

Chambery: a beautiful city, very active for the sustainable development of the Alpine area. Transport and mobility rank top of the priorities, told us the Major Mrs Laclais and the former Minister Luis Besson. In Chambéry, Alpine city in the year 2006, was opened in 2006 the "House of Parc and Mountains", which contains a very rich set of interactive games and information on Alpine nature. This House also hosts the offices of the "Task Force Protected Areas", in charge of coordinating activities of the network of Alpine protected areas. Also the headquarter of the European Association of Elected Representatives from Mountain areas sits here. Overall, a very intensive morning for discussing issues of relevance for policies in the Alps. The Group then lfts France for Switzerland (don't forget your identity card!) where near Interlaken was welcomed by a local wood handycraft and a producer of electric bicycles, which the Group used in order to reach Brienz. Interlaken is an "Alpine Pearl", which means is part of the network of destinations promoting sustainable and soft mobility. The wheather is now no longer good. Tomorrow we shall climb up to 3800 m......

SuperAlp!2 has started!

The adventure has started! Armed with their bicycles the "superalper" left l'Argentiere-la-Bessee cheered by the local mayor and the representatives of the most important NGOs for the protection of the Alps from all alpine countries. After a physically demanding climb to Pallon (1250 m), we enjoyed a beautiful descent to Mont Dauphin in the impressive valley of Durance.
A quick transfer by train to Gap was followed by a visit to the city by public bus (which is free of charge like all public transport in Gap).
We were welcomed by the mayor and his team and exchanged views of past, present and future activities of Gap as former Alpine City of the Year. At the end of the day another train took us to Chambéry where we could enjoy the local couisine.

First day

14 June L’Argentiere-la-Bessée/F – Gap/F - Chambéry/F 

SuperAlp! is starting from Argentiere-la-Bessée, headquarters of “Alpine Week 2008”. 

In the early morning participants will meet representatives of mountain farmers.  

The sustainable crossing of the Alps will start around 9.15 cycling for 15 km all the way to Mont Dauphin railway station. 

In the afternoon, a train will take participants to Gap and then to Chambéry, headquarters of the Task Force “Protected Areas” of the Permanent Secretariat of the Alpine Convention and of Alpine Town of the Year 2006.

The SuperAlp!2 official presentation

After the succes of the 2007 edition, the Permanent Secretariat of Alpine Convention is organising the second edition of SuperAlp! The "sustainable" crossing of the Alps taking a place between the 14th - 22nd June 2008, in cooperation with the Province of Belluno. It is a brand new itinerary for crossing the Alps using only sustainable means of transport: bike, train, bus, cableway, without forgetting the most eco-friendly and the natural way: walking. However, this project it is more tha just a journey across tha Alps. The 2008 edition wishes to make this crossing an occasion to discover the different existing naetworks, also at the local level, which contribute to the creation of a future worth its name, in compliance with the principles of the Alpine Convention.
